Winter storms find the weak shingles first.
The south coast takes strong south winds during wet season storms. A November 2019 storm brought gusts up to 75 mph across the Curry County coast. A 2012 storm hit Brookings and Gold Beach with winds over 60 mph and nearly eight inches of rain.
Brittle, moss lifted shingles are the ones that go first. Once a few tabs are gone, water gets under the next row. A quick repair after a storm keeps a small problem from turning into a big one.
While we're up there, we'll tell you what the rest of the roof looks like. Sometimes it's "this is fine for years." Sometimes it's "this is a good candidate for treatment." Sometimes it's "start planning a replacement." You'll get the real answer either way.
