Moss removal plus rejuvenation
Roof moss removal inBrookings & Curry County
01 · Why moss grows so well here
This coast is built for moss.
Brookings gets about 78 inches of rain a year. NOAA normals put it at 77.6 inches, with 14.1 inches in December alone. That is roughly double Portland. There are about 147 days a year with measurable rain, so a roof here is wet for months at a stretch.
It also never gets cold enough to slow moss down. Normal lows sit between 43°F and 54°F every month, and Brookings sees about five freezing nights a year in total. Wet shade, mild nights and no hard winter. Moss grows here all year.
02 · What moss does to a roof
It holds water where water shouldn't sit.
Moss acts like a sponge on your shingles. It keeps the surface wet long after the rain stops.
- Holds water against the shingle for days at a time
- Lifts shingle edges as it grows
- Works under the tabs where wind can catch them
- Over time, can rot the decking underneath

03 · The usual way
Scraping, brushing and pressure washing do damage.
Scraping
Pulls granules off with the moss. Granules are what protect the shingle from the sun.
Brushing
Same problem, slower. Grit ends up in your gutters instead of on your roof.
Pressure washing
Drives water under the shingles and strips granules too.
And when the roots are left behind, the moss comes back the next season.
04 · The Apex method
Clean, then restore.
Remove
A gentle soft wash takes out the moss and its roots without stripping the shingle. No pressure washer, no scraping.
Restore
The rejuvenation treatment soaks into the clean shingle and puts back the oils it has lost.

You get before and after photos of every slope, so you can see exactly what was done.

05 · Why rejuvenation follows
A clean shingle can still be a brittle one.
Taking the moss off fixes half the problem. The other half is what our summers do. July averages 0.39 inches of rain, and months of sun pull the oils out of asphalt. A roof that spends the winter soaked and the summer baking is aging from both directions.
That's why we treat the roof right after we clean it. The shingle gets its flexibility back, and it holds its granules better through the next wind storm.
06 · Does my roof qualify?
Will the moss come back?
On this coast, moss is always trying. We remove it properly, roots and all, which is why it doesn't bounce back the way it does after scraping. We won't promise it never returns. We'll tell you what to watch for and when to call us back.
- Asphalt shingle roof
- Still sound under the moss
- No active leaks or structural damage
- Work done in a dry weather window
If we find rot, leaks or damage, we'll tell you before anything else and quote the right fix.
